The CLIRMED workshop was held in November 2006 in Valladolid. CLIRMED was aimed to update farmers and technicians about climate change and its expected effects on the Mediterranean, particularly on those effects related to water availability in the future. Participants from Spain, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Syria and Morocco came to CLIRMED; as well as from Junta de Castilla y León, Spanish Ministry of Environment, National Federation of Irrigators (FENACORE), Spanish Association of Irrigation and Drainage (AERYD), Spanish Association of Irrigation Factories (AFRE) and the European Platform for Water (WSSTP). The workshop comprised speakers from the Wageningen University, The Netherlands, as well as from the Agricultural University of Vienna, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the University of Castilla La Mancha and the University of Salamanca; among others. CLIRMED finished with a round table, where farmers, scientists and politicians pointed out how to mitigate climate change risks in the Mediterranean irrigated agriculture.
